As much as our "not cool part of the state" appreciates the revenue and attention hosting another NCAA Tournament, is you may have written one of the most bizarre and ill informed blogs I have ever seen about the city of Spokane.
First of all people from Spokane are 'Spokanites'. The population is 198,000 in the city limits but the metropolitan area of Spokane and Kootnai counties approaches 600,000 people. We are no means unfamiliar with our cool cousin Seattle and share many events with them.
We have hosted several NCAA basketball tournaments in the last few years both men's and women's, mostly due to the popularity of the Gonzaga Bulldogs whose campus is adjacent to downtown. Gonzaga's men's basketball program is one of the elite teams in the entire country spawning 9 straight tourney appearances and producing 7 NBA players including Adam Morrison (Charlotte) Rony Turiaf (LA Lakers) and Dan Dickau (Sacramento Kings). Let's not forget John Stockton, one of the best NBA point guards in the history of basketball.
I was curious if you have ever heard of Bing Crosby, Bob is not as popular here. As well as Ryne Sandberg of the Chicago Cubs, and Super Bowl MVP QB Mark Rypien.
I would hope next time you do so called 'research' it actually involves looking up facts and figures and not making stuff up.
I know it can be daunting to find out about Spokane County which is nearly larger than Maryland. The big western skies can be intimidating. Ha!
Thank you

I disagree about most of the country picking U.C.L.A. I would think that most in the country would pick North Carolina. And while we are on the subject of the NCAA tournament, why no team in the ACC offered Curry from Davidson a schlarship is a shame. I guess the Terps could not use one of best shooters in the country. Hey Gary, have a good summer!!!!!

What a great summary of Spokane! Our moniker is "Near nature. Near perfect." We hope you enjoy it here. Spokane is looking forward to hosting.

Pam Scott
Spokane Regional CVB

P.S. Even more famous than Bob Crosby is Bing Crosby, arguably the most-recorded voice in history and best-known for "White Christmas." There is even a museum in his honor on the Gonzaga University campus, not far from the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena where the 2008 NCAA Division 1 Women's Basketball will be played!

I'm very dispappointed the there wasn't a front page story on Crystal Langhorne being named ACC Player of the year today. Even the Post Express paper had an article on that and they have an early press time! She deserves better from her school's student newspaper.

im not actually sure how exciting it would have been to go to those caverns. Probably not very. I most enjoyed the highlights of the journey, namely the gasoline on the hand. I had a good chuckle. I look forward to future blog posts.
